Twenty20 Can Become A "Monster" If Allowed To: Shaun Pollock

Retired South African all-rounder Shaun Pollock fears that Twenty20 cricket might engulf all forms of cricket in the near future but called on the custodians of cricket to preserve Test cricket as it was the real basis of the game.

Pollock also said that Twenty20 had the potential to become a monster if it was allowed to. "It is going to dominate," Pollock was quoted as saying to the Independent.

"It's the fresh game and spectators love it. But I do think you need a longer form of the game to allow you to get back into it if you have a poor start. Twenty20 is a bit like a sprint - if you get it wrong at the start, you're gone. But it does have the potential to really take over because of the vibe and the way the spectators enjoy it. So it does need to be managed carefully," he added.

"I think there will always be Test cricket, I don't think it's ever going to go away. I just hope that the quality is maintained. It has a history and heritage and that needs to be protected," Pollock said.
