Kings XI Punjab defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by nine runs in their home IPL match at Mohali today.

A world record sixth wicket stand of 104 runs between Australian David Hussey and Wriddhiman Shah proved futile for the Kolkata team as their chase fell short by nine runs.

Kings XI Punjab, however, won their fourth match on the trot.

Set to chase 178 for victory, Kolkata, who were down to 50-5 at one stage recovered superbly to be back in contention because of Hussey-Shah partnership.

But with 19 needed off the last over and Hussey departing for 71, the asking was too much for Kolkata as Punjab kept their cool and romped home.

Earlier, Kings XI Punjab elected to bat first.
