New Zealand Is Wary Of England’s Ryan Sidebottom, Concedes Captain Daniel Vettori
New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori is wary of England’s Ryan Sidebottom, whose bowling exploits had won his team a 2-1 Test series victory in New Zealand earlier in March.
As the two teams once again meet in a three-Test series in England from May 15, Vettori admitted his team will again be wary of the Yorkshireman.
"England are a good side and they are led by a very good fast bowler in Ryan Sidebottom," Vettori was quoted as saying to Sportinglife.com.
"I thought he was the difference between the two teams (in New Zealand).
"Anyone who takes 24 wickets and bowls as fast as he does, swings the ball and bowls the length of spells - that was quite fantastic," Vettori, who himself gave an injury scare to his team, in a tour match against Essex last Saturday, added.
"If you look at his recent Test performances, he's been outstanding," he added.
"He's their best bowler, and every time he's stepped up they seem to win games.
"Our big challenge is countering him. If we do that it gives us a chance of actually winning the series," Vettori said.
