Essex started off the final day on 45-1 and needed 293 for victory. However, they were all out for 200 with Mason claiming 3-36.
Mason did a good job as New Zealand were without their injured skipper and spinner Daniel Vettori.

Brief score:
New Zealand 355 & 195-9 declared beat Essex 258 & 200 by 92 runs
