Surrey is targeting retired South African all-rounder Shaun Pollock for the Twenty20 Cup.

The 34-year-old great is known to have also been approached by Sussex, Warwickshire, Glamorgan and Yorkshire, but Surrey is confident of sealing a deal with the veteran as he is likely to be based in London doing commentary for Sky Sports during this summer’s England v South Africa Test series.

“We think we have a good chance – we know what he has been offered elsewhere and he has indicated he would like to play for us,” Roger Harman, chairman of the Surrey’s cricket committee, was quoted as saying in the Surrey Advertiser.

Pollock is likely to be signed up on the new Kolpak rule.
