India Under 19 Lift The World Cup In Malaysia Beating South Africa By 12 Runs (D/L Method)

India beat South Africa by 12 runs (D/L method) to win the ICC Under 19 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia today.

This is India's second World Cup title in eight years. They were first crowned champions in 2000 after beating Sri Lanka in the finals in Colombo.

Today India, who were restricted to 159 all out earlier, required to defend only 116 in 25 overs as rain interruption in the second innings ensured that the Proteas had to chase a revised score.

When South Africa began their chase they were down to 17-3 in the 10th over and a rain stoppage curtailed the match down to 25 overs. In the end they managed only 103-8 to lose the summit clash.

The South Africans completely lost the plot after resumption and kept losing wickets at regular intervals while the required run-rate was soaring all the while.

Earlier, South Africa staged a professional bowling performance and capped it up with some good fielding to bowl out former champions India for a paltry 159 (45.4 overs).

The Indian batting never struck the right rhythm through the innings as they were stifled on the whole by some sharp fielding and good tight bowling by the Proteas.

Tanmay Srivastava was the top-scorer for India with 46 while most of the top order simply failed to get going.

South Africa decided to field first and had that decision working their way as India struggled from time to time to be all out cheaply as the rival bowlers kept chipping away with regular breakthroughs.
