IPL Concept Could Be Duplicated In Australia: Report
Media reports said on Tuesday that Cricket Australia was aiming to initiate a Twenty20 league of its own by following the footsteps of the Indian Premier League.
As per players union boss Paul Marsh, the new thought has passed CA to ensure it shares in the riches of the Twenty20 revolution.
Though the IPL is a great money-spinner, the irony is the game's governing body does not earn a penny out of it.
There are moves to start second-tier events in Australia and England, possibly backed by Texan billionaire Allen Stanford, though IPL will remain the No 1 T20 tournament.
"We need to find this window and then find how to get a return from it for each of the boards," Marsh was quoted as saying to the Daily Telegraph.
"We might find a window and it opens a door for a whole lot of these leagues," Marsh said.
"It could be like soccer. The Indian league will be the Premier League, and then you have the Australian league as the second league, or even the English league," he added.
"Over time players could go and play in one of these leagues and then you'll have a situation where the ICC could license each league, get a return and distribute it to each of these boards," Marsh added.
