‘Technology Should Be Used To Assist On-Field Umpires’

The ICC is exploring possibilities of using more technologies to assist the on-field umpires in making their job a lot easier, stated ICC’s new CEO Lorgat Haroon, who takes over from Malcolm Speed in July.

Lorgat confessed that there was a need to improve the standard of umpiring.

"It is important to assist the umpires, not replace them. They have an incredibly difficult and important job, and they should be offered help wherever possible," Lorgat was quoted as saying to Sydney Morning Herald.

"I do not know yet all the factors that have been considered by the ICC, but would suspect that, where it makes sense, technology should be used to help the umpires," he added.
